We are currently in need of a:

POLLUTION CONTROL OFFICER

General Job Description:
The Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and review of the Boar's Health and Safety policies and programs, hazardous waste management, occupational hygiene (indoor air quality assessments, asbestos and mould) accident investigations, safety training of staff, liaison with Health & Safety Committee, emergency preparedness planning, developing a risk management strategy, and monitoring accessibility issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- To promote Occupational Health & Safety as well as Pollution Control within all facilities and represent management in Occupational Health & Safety matters
- Develops, Implements and maintains OH&S Policy and Implementation Program and Procedures
- Establishes Budget Proposals for OH&S including training/meetings
- Implements and supervises the above programs and procedures
- Represents management in all inspections and H&S and Pollution control matters
- Coordinates annual building inspections and prepares and distributes inspection reports including follow-up activities
- Conducts inspections and prepares reports as required
- Responds to all emergency inspections and request and reports to committees and management
- Investigate and make recommendations to matters related to indoor air quality and environmental concerns expressed by employees
- Accompanies Department of Labor inspectors and receives subsequent reports
- Responds to orders issued by Department of Labor Inspectors
- Arranges for testing and evaluations of the workplace by external agencies as required
- Acts as liaison with Police and fire department (re: Fire Drill / Trespass matters)
- Acts as liaison with agencies and other Dole contacts (re: air quality, etc.) and provides information or inspections as required
- Assists the Head of Operations or his/her designate, senior administrators, principals and other managers/supervisors in emergency planning
- Evaluates the efficiency of all emergency plans in the systems and makes recommendations regarding suggested amendments
- Coordinates all aspects of waste management including waste reduction, recycling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
- Performs other duties as assigned by superior from time to time

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with specialization in Safety Management, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science or related
- Sound working knowledge of all relevant legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Environment Protection Act
- Previous significant experience and ability in emergency planning and development of risk management policies and procedures
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written and at various levels of an organization
- High level of computer experience and proficiency in an Office Environment
